Piano sales have been very strong recently, which is encouraging as the economy transitions. Customers ask about the "NEARLY NEW" description of the pianos I am selling.

Like new automobiles, all brand new pianos depreciate very quickly from the showroom price tag, then their real value is stable for many years. I search out the pianos from the finest piano makers that are NEARLY NEW. The Yamaha and Kawai pianos I list as NEARLY NEW represent a terrific financial and musical investment. These pristine condition pianos when you see them, you will agree, look and sound in every respect as new. Mechanically and structurally they are in excellent condition. Because I buy in quantity from my wholesaler in Japan, I am able to pass on these substantial savings to my customers.

Here are some examples of the great savings to be had from buying a NEARLY NEW piano from Martin Snow Pianos. The tallest Yamaha upright is the 53" tall model U3 which currently has a suggested new retail price of $16,000. My NEARLY NEW price for the U3 which includes delivery, new piano bench, 5 year warranty, and the first in home complementary piano tuning is $4800.

The savings are even greater for the grand pianos. A very popular mid-size Yamaha grand piano is the 5'8" model, which has a suggested new retail price of $35K. My NEARLY NEW price for this piano is $11,900. The 6'1" Yamaha grand piano has a suggested new retail price of $47K. My NEARLY NEW price: $14,900. The 6'7" Yamaha grand piano has a suggested new retail price of $50K. My NEARLY NEW price: $15,900. Another fabulous Steinway piano at Martin Snow Pianos. This model L manufactured in 1986 is in LIKE NEW condition with very little usage. The current MSRP on this model piano is $67,500, superb tone throughout, comes also with a Jansen Artist Bench. Price at Martin Snow Pianos: $27,000.

Steinway grand model A, 6'4", one of the most sought after Steinway grand pianos, originally manufactured in 1926. This stunning piano has been fully restored, new pinblock and strings, all new Steinway hammer action assembly. The original soundboard is in wonderful condition. The cabinet has been fully refinished in a lustrous satin ebony sheen. $29,500.

Fully restored Steinway model M, 5'7", originally manufactured in 1933. New pinblock, strings, tuning pins; original soundboard in excellent condition. New hammer action. Fully refinished mahogany cabinet. $26,500. This model M mahogany Steinway piano is still being made and retails new for $67K.

Your First Piano

Sometimes the price of pianos may seem a little intimidating, especially if, as a parent, you are not sure how long your child will continue to play. A much better alternative than purchasing a keyboard, or searching Craigslist for a piano with no warranty or follow up service, are the console and spinet pianos I am now selling at the store.

These pianos have all been thoroughly checked over and tuned, and are priced between $1300 and $1900. The price includes delivery to your home, 5 year warranty, a matching piano bench and the first complimentary piano tuning. If you decide to upgrade your piano in the future, I offer a trade-in, if the piano is purchased at my store.

The Yamaha and Kawai pianos are best-sellers again this year. Parents are thrilled to hear the positive springboard effect a good instrument has upon their child's playing. These instruments have a terrific sound with an even and consistent action response—essential as the student progresses to more challenging pieces, enabling them to musically interpret the dynamics demanded by both the composer and teacher. Many schools, including the Brookline Music School and the South Shore Conservatory have chosen these pianos to upgrade their inventory.

Yamaha and Kawai pianos are applauded by musicians and piano teachers for their superior quality, and consistently rate at the highest level by independent piano technicians.

The upright pianos that I sell are the 48-inch studio model, and the 53-inch full concert upright. Remember, the taller an upright piano, the more potential for better sound, because within this cabinet a larger sounding board and a longer string can be installed. These uprights and baby grands are in pristine condition. Most were manufactured in the 1990s. They have been thoroughly inspected, tuned, and regulated. The cabinets have either been repolished or refinished. Most of the cabinets are ebony, but mahogany and walnut are sometimes available.

With any piano that I sell, the price includes a new bench and all delivery charges. I will tune the piano prior to delivery, and I offer a warranty tuning within the first six months. The piano is under a full warranty for five years.

1994 Baldwin console, cherry finish, decorative cabinet with reeded legs, excellent condition, $2200.

Kawai baby grand model GE1, 5'1", in a satin ebony cabinet. Manufactured in 1994, piano is in excellent condition. $6900.

Steinway Model B, 7' concert grand, manufactured in New York in 1986. One owner, very little usage, very good original condition. $32,500.

Kawai RX2, 5'10", manufactured in 2000, in a polished mahogany French Provincial style cabinet, this piano is in Like New condition. The piano currently has a MSRP of $46K, price at Martin Snow Pianos, $17,900.

2003 Yamaha grand model C1, absolutely mint condition on this Conservatory Series 5'3" piano. Retails new at $31K. My Nearly New price: $11,900.

Steinway grand piano model M, 5'7". Originally manufactured in 1926, fully restored, new pinblock, strings, tuning pins and all new action mechanism, cabinet refinished in satin ebony, ivory keytops. The original soundboard on this Golden Age Steinway combined with all new strings and action mechanism gives this piano a warm resonant tone. $26,500.

Yamaha upright piano model U1 in a satin walnut cabinet with a cabriole leg, manufactured in the 1990s and Like New in every way. I don't often have this model of piano in a walnut cabinet, retails new for $12K... My Nearly New price: $5200.

For those of you who know your Steinway pianos, the 7' model B is the flagship of the company. This is a spectacular piano originally manufactured in one of the the prime years, 1926. A new soundboard has been installed and all new Steinway action. This concert grand piano roars and whispers depending on the occasion. Price: $47,500.

There's always room for a baby grand. Very good condition on this Chickering small grand piano, walnut cabinet... $4500.

Chickering and Sons 5'9" grand piano in an exceptional and quite unique burl walnut cabinet. This instrument has been fully restored, all new strings and tuning pins, soundboard refinished, new Abel Encore natural felt hammers. Originally manufactured in Boston in 1915. Chickering and Sons were known for producing award winning instruments of superb quality and design. This restored piano, manufactured by one of the leading piano makers of the Golden Age, is truly an American classic, and an heirloom piano. A matching burl walnut piano bench is included. This piano is very competitively priced at $19,900.
